Review of the Potato Curry Recipe

Hi, Ray here again.

Like most people. I enjoy have something extra to go with my curry. Maybe some mango chutney, lime pickle, raita or naan bread. Now some of these extras contain a lot of calories and I’ve written a little about this before in the Curry Calorie Count article where I show how you can work out how many calories are in a curry.

But what about making a side dish? Some side dishes that you get from a curry house are probably laden with calories but making your own means that you control what goes into the curry.

A very easy Potato Curry Recipe was recently submitted to the Curry Focus website in the Vegetarian Side Dishes category of recipes and I thought that I would give the recipe a shot.

The preparation is almost as simple as it can get because all you have to do is peel 2 or 3 potatoes (depending on their size), cut up the potatoes, chop some chillies and chop a couple of tomatoes. Not exactly rocket science.

So into the kitchen I go.

I got the potatoes peeled and cubed whilst the water was heating. In went the potatoes when the water was boiling and I chopped up the tomatoes and chillies whilst the potatoes were cooking.

I heated up the oil and had all of the spices on hand when the cooking time arrived.

And from then onwards it was easy, easy, easy.

All together, the preparation and cooking took about 25 minutes. Now that is fast.

And at the end of the cooking I had a yummy Potato Curry. It really was delicious with a lovely taste of potatoes and spices, especially the fenugreek and cumin tastes – just yummy. The curry had a spice/heat level of hot with a good taste score of 8 out of 10.

This is definitely a side dish that I’ll be making pretty often in the future. I can just double the ingredients to get a decent sized amount for the next family curry.
